DETROIT — The NCAA and the Detroit Local Organizing Committee (DLOC) want all fans, even those without tickets to the championship games, to experience the excitement of the 2009 NCAA Men’s Final Four.
A lot will be going on with the final 4 game this weekend in Michigan, in downtown Detroit. I will keep you up dated on it all.
Final Four Updates from Ford Field
Tony Price and his son, A.J., already had plenty in common having both led their college hoops squads to a Final Four -- 30 years apart.
Unfortunately for the Prices, they now share another common bond after Michigan State upset UConn, 82-73, Saturday night in Detroit. In 1979, Tony's Pennsylvania squad fell to Magic Johnson and the Spartans to pave the way for the most important championship game in college basketball history. While we don't know what's in store Monday night, we know A.J. and the Huskies won't take part.
Some revealing stats:Travis Walton had 9 assists, 0 turnovers and kept Price in check. UConn sunk 21 of 33 free throws (64 percent).Attendance: A Final Final record 72,456 fans.Michigan State managed 13 more shots than UConn.UConn shot 35.3 percent in the second half.Bench points: Michigan State 33, UConn 7Kemba Walker, who scored 23 in the Huskies' previous game, finished with 5 and converted only 3 of 9 free throws.
